85-years-old student returns to University after 67 years to continue her studies.

A personal experience with an 85-year-old student (colleague) named Rosa, (touching story).

This was my first day at University I was kind of nervous like most of the students, after the professor introduced himself he challenged us to know someone we didn’t already know, as I was searching for a student to get to know each other suddenly somebody touched my shoulder from behind, when I turned around there’s this old wrinkled lady that smiled at me which enlightened my day.

She said, “Hi, my name is Rosa, I’m 85 years old”, and I responded, “What are you doing here, don’t you have to be with other kids playing at the playground?” and she responded with a smile on her face, “No, I’m here to marry one handsome, rich and young guy like you”, and I said, “Seriously, what pushed you to come to the University at this age?”, and she told me, “I always wanted to have a University degree and finally I’m getting one.”

After the class we walked to the Starbucks to buy some latte’s, we became instantly friends, and for the next three months we became best friends, I just couldn’t stop listening her life stories from the past, the wisdom and experiences she shared with me were just immaculate.
Over those months she became friends with lots of other students, she really became an Icon, I can tell she was living her best life.

Once we invited her in a football match, and before the match started she made a speech, she said “We do not stop playing because we are old, we grow old because we stop playing.” and since that day this saying lives in my head rent free.

She said, “You’ve got to dream, without dreams, we die”, later on I came to realize that we have a lot of people who are dead amongst us which don’t even know it. There’s a huge difference between growing old and growing up, the secret to achieve happiness and success is to laugh, love and find humor every day in your life.

Anyone will grow older, that’s mandatory. It doesn’t take anything away from you, it just gives you the opportunity to change, so have no regrets whatsoever.
I heard so many elders that they never regret for the things they did, only the things they didn’t do, the only people who fear the death are those with regrets, at the final year of studies Rosa finished the University degree, one week after graduation she died peacefully in her sleep, thousands of students attended her funeral, in tribute to this amazing woman who taught each of us that it’s never too late to achieve anything you ever wanted in your life.
